Malay Dance
Malay dance is an integral part of the cultural heritage in Singapore, showcasing the rich traditions and artistry of the Malay community. As a CCA, Malay Dance offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves in this vibrant art form while developing essential life skills, and a sense of identity and belonging.
The five main genres of Malay Dance – Inang, Zapin, Masri, Ronggeng, and Asli - each have unique characteristics and historical significance, allowing students to appreciate the diversity within the Malay cultural landscape. Malay Dance also fosters teamwork, discipline, and an appreciation for cultural heritage. Through rehearsals and performances, students gain a deeper understanding of commitment and collaboration – key values for personal development. In addition, the CCA helps build confidence as students frequently perform before an audience.
Malay Dance serves as a bridge connecting students to their roots, enhances their cultural appreciation, and contributes to their holistic development as responsible and culturally-aware individuals.
